Materials for a hydraulic cylinder barrel

- Jan 16, 2022-

1.A cold-drawn or hot-rolled seamless tube is a common rough material for cylinder barrel. The semi-finish already treated by honing or fine machining of interior hole can be easily found in the market, needing only a further cutting for requested length. Several grades of carbon steel like 20, 35, 45 and alloy steel like 27SiMn are optional;

2.For a hydraulic cylinder employed under conditions of a temperature -50℃, it must be carbon steel 35 or 45 and meanwhile quenched and tempered;

3.For one that needs to be welded with a cylinder cover or a flange, select carbon steel 35, then quench and temper it after mechanical prefinishing. While for one not welded with any other part, take quenched and tempered carbon steel 45;

4.For one with thick wall, cast or forged steel, or a piece of thick steel sheet rolled and welded into a hydraulic cylinder bar is an appropriate select. However, annealing must be done after welding and flaw detection by X-ray or magnetic of welding seam should be taken. For such type, materials are usually carbon steel like 20, 35 and 45, common alloy steel like 15MnV and 27SiMn, alloy structural steel like 30CrMo, 35CrMo and 35CrMo-AL, stainless steel like Cr18Ni9, aluminium alloy like ZL105, LF3 and LF6, cast steel like ZG230-450 and ZG310-500, and anti-corrosion aluminium alloy like 5A03 and 5A06.
