The main cause of jumping of a precision piston rod is by machining, like negative work of grinding process.

Secondly, the base lines don’t comply with each other or the error of shape and position between base lines exceeds what we initially expect for it.

Thirdly, another possibility is inappropriate adaption of the collocation tolerance between each part of a precision piston rod.

As for extension volume of a precision piston rod by thermal deformation, it’s quite large, as should be aware of. Besides, when machining it, one end is clamped up and the other withstood, which limits its extension in longitudinal direction of the work piece. In this case, bending occurs itself definitely.

Then what’s the solution of such a problem? When processing, we need first adapt a flexible rotary blocks to withstand the ends of the work piece, which supplements effectively the extension by thermal deformation, avoiding the occurring of bending and meanwhile guaranteeing smoothness of the following process of cutting.

Another point is to add adequate cutting fluid during machining of a precision piston rod so that it can be cooled sufficiently. This is an effective way to prevent thermal deformation from rising of temperature caused amid cutting.

The cutting fluid is also a warranty factor for lifespan of cutter and for quality of the work piece. Keeping the cutter sharp enough during cutting is in return a measure to decline heat caused by friction during cutting.
